At Massachusetts Dermatology Associates, Dr. Deborah Cummins will tell you that the most cost-effective way to keep your skin looking youthful is to protect from the sun with sunscreen, shade, and hats. In the long-run, sun protection will not only prevent skin cancer, but will also prevent brown sun spots and will slow down the progression of wrinkles. If you develop brown spots despite good sun protection you may consider lightening creams. For wrinkles, Botox® and filler treatments such as Juvederm® are safe year-round including the summer. In contrast, IPL and laser treatments are safest to use when you have been out of the sun (or very carefully protected from the sun) for at least 3-4 weeks and plan to remain out of the sun for a few weeks after treatment.
