What are the Most Common Misconceptions Related to Sunlight and Skin Cancer?
In Glamour magazine’s “The 5 Skin Cancer Mistakes We All Make”
Dr. Deborah Cummins and other dermatologists agree that careful sun protection is important for everyone. A survey by Glamour magazine of their readership indicates that despite the known risk of skin cancers a large proportion of women continue to try to look tan because they think it looks “healthy”. Many women do not understand the importance of protecting their skin and re-applying sunscreen. While there are health benefits to the exercise we get outdoors, it is important to enjoy our outdoor activities intelligently, with adequate sunscreen (re-applied as necessary) and hats and protective clothing when possible. Additionally, you may be able to dramatically reduce sun exposure by scheduling outdoor activities early or late in the day or by choosing a shady location.
