Vlad Ratushny, M.D., Ph.D.
Dr. Vlad Ratushny is a fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon and a board-certified Harvard-trained dermatologist who takes a patient-centered care approach. In addition to his surgical specialization in Mohs surgery and cutaneous reconstructive surgery, optimized to give the best outcome for both preserving function and aesthetics, Dr. Ratushny also specializes in skin cancer screening and dermatologic oncology. Based on his training at the Harvard Dermatology Residency Program, Dr. Ratushny also focuses on the treatment of a wide range of skin conditions including skin cancer, rashes, psoriasis, acne, rosacea, as well as many others. Dr. Ratushny also specializes in other dermatologic procedures such as excisions, aesthetics, and hair transplantation surgery. Dr. Ratushny enjoys creating a therapeutic relationship with each of his patients and working together with them to identify and find solutions to their dermatologic concerns. When not working, Dr. Ratushny enjoys living on the North Shore with his wife and two children, playing pickleball, and swimming.
Dr. Ratushny was born in Kyiv, Ukraine and came to America at a young age. He grew up in Brooklyn and Long Island, NY, and then spent time in Philadelphia for medical training prior to relocating to the New England area.
Dr. Ratushny completed a combined MD-PhD Program at Drexel University College of Medicine and Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia. During the course of his Ph.D. in Molecular and Cell Biology, Dr. Ratushny discovered two new drug combination therapies for cancer, one of which went on to be tested in a clinical trial for lung cancer patients.
Dr. Ratushny completed his dermatology residency training at the Harvard Dermatology Residency Training Program. During the course of his residency, Dr Ratushny had the privilege of learning from many renowned dermatologists at Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston Children’s Hospital, Lahey Clinic, and the V.A.
Dr. Ratushny completed a rigorous Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology fellowship under the tutelage of Dr. Armand Cognetta (who himself trained directly under a Mohs surgeon taught by the namesake of Mohs surgery, Dr. Frederic Mohs MD) at Florida State University College of Medicine. During his fellowship, Dr. Ratushny gained experience in treating difficult skin cancers throughout the face, scalp, ears, eyelids, lips, neck, hands, feet, and body and successfully performed more than 1300 Mohs surgery cases. Dr. Ratushny is also well versed in reconstructive surgery following Mohs surgery using advanced techniques that he learned from 3 experienced plastic reconstructive surgeons during his fellowship.
Dr. Ratushny’s original research, case reports, and review articles have been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals in areas ranging from skin cancer, drug resistance mechanisms, Lyme disease, allergic contact dermatitis, and medical humanities. Dr. Ratushny also understands the importance of keeping up with the latest knowledge and technology and has participated in the development of new technology in teledermatology. Dr. Ratushny has also provided dermatologic care for the homeless population at the Boston Healthcare for the Homeless Program, as well as volunteered at a free laser tattoo removal clinic for a disadvantaged population.
